Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday flagged off a special pilgrimage train from Kurukshetra to Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra, with around 800 pilgrims onboard, while also outlining the state government’s focus on welfare, women’s empowerment and social development.

The special train was flagged off under the Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana, with pilgrims drawn from multiple districts across the state. The Chief Minister interacted with passengers before departure and extended his wishes for a safe and meaningful journey.

Officials said arrangements had been made to ensure the passengers’ safety, food and overall comfort during the journey. The initiative, Saini noted, is aimed at making religious travel accessible, especially for elderly citizens and those from economically weaker sections.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister underlined the cultural and spiritual significance of the journey, saying such efforts help people stay connected to their roots while promoting a sense of unity and shared heritage.

He also announced that a Somnath Yatra will be organised from Haryana on June 8, as part of continued efforts to promote pilgrimage tourism.

During his visit to Kurukshetra, Saini addressed a separate programme focused on women’s empowerment, stressing that the nation’s progress depends on strengthening key sections of society, including women, farmers, youth, and the poor. He said empowering women remains central to achieving the vision of a developed India.

The Chief Minister also highlighted steps being taken in education and technology, including support for women in advanced training programmes. He reiterated that youth should be encouraged to create employment opportunities rather than depend solely on jobs.

In addition, Saini spoke about ongoing welfare measures, including financial assistance for gaushalas and initiatives to manage stray cattle. He said the government is also promoting voluntary blood donation, with Haryana recording strong participation in recent drives.

The day’s programmes reflected the government’s combined push towards spiritual outreach and social welfare, with the Chief Minister emphasising inclusive development and community participation as key to long-term progress.
