Panchkula Police have arrested two criminals associated with the Noni Rana gang after an encounter in which both accused were injured. The suspects were allegedly planning to carry out a firing incident at Neelkanth Dhaba in Karnal.
According to police, the Anti-Narcotics Cell received information that two associates of notorious criminal Noni Rana were moving around in the Panchkula area on a motorcycle without a number plate, carrying illegal weapons, and planning a serious crime. Acting swiftly, Nakabandi was set up through the district control room, and multiple teams were deployed to intensify patrolling.
During a patrol in Sector 23, the ANC team spotted two suspicious men on a motorcycle without a number plate. Under the leadership of in-charge Praveen Kumar, the team chased them and eventually surrounded them near the dumping ground close to the NIFT institute.
On seeing the police, the accused tried to flee but lost control and fell off their motorcycle. Despite this, they attempted to escape and opened fire on the police team. In response, the police retaliated in self-defense. A total of six rounds were fired from both sides during the exchange.
Both accused sustained injuries in the encounter and were immediately taken to a nearby district hospital for treatment.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed their links to the Noni Rana gang and stated that they were acting on the instructions of an associate, Monu Gujjar. They were allegedly planning to open fire at Neelkanth Dhaba in Karnal and had procured illegal weapons from Chouki village in Panchkula.
Police recovered two illegal .32 bore firearms from their possession. Considering the seriousness of the case, further legal action has been initiated, and the matter has been handed over to the Chandimandir police station. Authorities are now investigating the criminal background of the accused, their gang network, and any other planned crimes.
