Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, calling it a major boost for connectivity, jobs and economic growth in the state. Speaking in Hardoi  Modi said the access-controlled greenfield expressway would link western, central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, helping farmers, businesses and travellers.

He described the project as one of India’s key modern infrastructure achievements and said it reflected the country’s push for faster development. The expressway, named after the River Ganga, is expected to improve travel times across the state and connect several districts more efficiently. Modi said better roads would help farmers transport produce to markets and raise incomes.

He also said industrial corridors planned along the route could attract investment in sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather goods and handicrafts, creating employment opportunities for young people.

The prime minister said Uttar Pradesh was aiming to become a one trillion-dollar economy and that infrastructure projects would play a major role in reaching that target.

He highlighted the state’s growing manufacturing base, including mobile phone production, semiconductor projects and defence industries such as the BrahMos missile programme.

Modi also pointed to improvements in air connectivity, saying Uttar Pradesh now has 21 operational airports, including five international airports.

He contrasted the state’s current development push with its earlier image of poor infrastructure and weak law and order. The Ganga Expressway is among the largest road projects undertaken in the state and is expected to become a key transport corridor for trade and travel.
