Six persons were detained, and narcotic substances along with cash were seized during an intensified police crackdown in Doda and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir, while properties worth Rs 73 lakh linked to alleged drug peddlers were attached in Udhampur under the NDPS Act.

Police said the operation was part of an ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the region. In Doda town, a raid at a house in Dak Mohalla led to the detention of three persons, including a woman identified as Zareena Begum, who had been under surveillance.

Officials said 85 grams of suspected brown sugar and over Rs 23 lakh in cash were recovered during the raid. Begum’s daughter and son-in-law were also taken into custody.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mohd Aslam said the roles of the detained individuals were being examined, and further action would follow based on the findings. He added that more raids were being carried out at other suspected locations.

In the Kathua district, three persons were arrested in separate operations, with heroin recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Pardeep Singh of Hiranagar, Rahees Butt of Billawar, and Ali Sen of Amritsar, Punjab.

Police said small quantities of heroin were seized from Singh and Butt, while a larger consignment was recovered from Sen, who was intercepted while traveling in a private vehicle on the Jammu Pathankot highway. All three have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigation is underway.

In a parallel action in Udhampur, police attached properties worth Rs 73 lakh belonging to the accused persons in cases registered under the NDPS Act. The seized assets include a residential house, vehicles, and a mobile phone linked to an accused identified as Saif Ali.

In another case, a car valued at around Rs 8 lakh belonging to Danish Butt of Doda was also attached in connection with an FIR registered at Rehambal police station.

Police said the crackdown will continue as part of efforts to dismantle drug networks in the region, with further action and property attachments likely as investigations progress.
