Himachal Pradesh Technical University approves Rs 76.07 crore budget for 2026-27

After Himachal Pradesh Technical University in Hamirpur on Monday approved an annual budget of Rs 76.07 crore for the financial year 2026-27, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the allocation will support academic advancement and overall development of students. The Chief Minister said the university aims to go beyond conventional education by encouraging students to engage in innovation, research and co-curricular activities. He added that emphasis will be placed on entrepreneurship and practical training to help students become self-reliant.

The budget was cleared following detailed discussions in a Finance Committee meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor and Secretary of Technical Education Abhishek Jain. It was subsequently approved by the university’s Board of Directors, according to officials.

Jain said the university is preparing to introduce PhD programmes offered both on campus and across affiliated colleges. He noted that the budget reflects a forward-looking approach that integrates education, research, skill development and entrepreneurship.

He said dedicated provisions have been made to strengthen research and innovation, including funding for infrastructure and academic resources. The university also plans to expand opportunities for students through initiatives related to skill development and industry exposure.
