Nowshera, April 21
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated an upgraded road and a 100-bedded sub-district hospital in Nowshera, Rajouri district, on Monday, underscoring the Jammu and Kashmir government’s focus on improved connectivity and healthcare access for border communities.
During his visit, Abdullah dedicated the upgraded road project, completed at a cost of ₹7.99 crore, to the public. The new road is expected to ease travel and improve transport links for residents of Nowshera and adjoining areas. He also inaugurated a modern 100-bedded sub-district hospital, developed at an estimated cost of ₹18.18 crore, which brings advanced healthcare services to the region.
Addressing a public gathering, Abdullah said public office is a responsibility to serve people and improve lives. “Positions of power are not meant for personal comfort but to bring relief to the people and make their lives easier. Our priority is to strengthen schools, hospitals, roads, and address unemployment and poverty,” he said. Abdullah reaffirmed support for daily wage earners, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, and cited ongoing welfare initiatives such as free gas cylinders for the poorest households, electricity subsidies, and free bus travel for women.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary stated that the projects reflect the government’s commitment to balanced and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the completion of long-pending projects in the region marks a significant achievement for the administration.
The inauguration of the upgraded road and hospital marks a major push for infrastructure and welfare in the Rajouri district. These initiatives are expected to enhance the quality of life for residents of Nowshera and support continued regional development.
