Insects were found inside a packet of chips in Himachal Pradesh’s Nadaun subdivision on Thursday, raising serious food safety concerns and prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident. According to officials, the matter came to light in the Gauna area when a family opened a packet of chips purchased from a local shop and noticed insects crawling inside. The family said they were relieved to spot the contamination before their two-year-old child could consume the product.

An aggrieved family member, Sony Kumar, said the packet carried a manufacturing date of March 19 and an expiry date of July 17, indicating that it was still within its validity period. The shopkeeper said the stock had been supplied by the company just two days earlier and added that a complaint had been lodged with the firm following the incident.

The family has demanded strict action against the company, alleging negligence in the packaging process. Nadaun Sub Divisional Magistrate Nishant Sharma said directions will be issued to the concerned department to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. District Food Safety Officer Abhishek said that no formal complaint has been received so far and added that samples will be collected once a complaint is filed to proceed with legal action.

The incident has raised concerns over quality control and food safety standards, with authorities expected to take further steps after the inquiry.
