Chandigarh, April 13
A bomb threat sent through email prompted a security sweep at the passport office in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area Phase-2 on Monday. Officials evacuated the building as a precaution and conducted a thorough search, but no suspicious items were found.
Sector 31 Station House Officer Hari Om Sharma said, “People were asked to come out for a while as due care was taken that no panic is caused in the passport office building complex.” Authorities confirmed the search concluded without incident and stated that further investigation is underway.
This incident follows a series of similar threats in Chandigarh and nearby areas. Last week, several schools in the city received bomb threats through email, leading to precautionary checks that also found nothing out of the ordinary. In recent weeks, comparable threats have been reported at educational institutions and the High Court in Punjab and Haryana, all of which proved to be hoaxes.
The police are continuing their inquiry into the latest threat. Officials have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security measures as investigations proceed.
