Mandi, April 13
A 19-year-old girl was killed in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Monday after being attacked with a sharp weapon near Gopalpur while on her way to college. Police said one person has been arrested in connection with the case and an investigation is underway.
The victim has been identified as Siya Guleria. According to police, she was intercepted by two assailants riding a motorcycle who attacked her with a sharp weapon and slit her throat. She died on the spot due to her injuries while the attackers fled the scene.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and recovered the body. Local residents later found one of the suspects, aged 36, hiding in nearby fields and informed the police. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered by villagers.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. He added that further investigation is in progress to establish the full sequence of events and identify all those involved.
The incident triggered tension in the area, with locals demanding strict action against the accused. Police have assured that the case will be pursued rigorously and that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
