Dharamshala, April 8
Despite continuous rainfall in Kangra district and snowfall in the Dhauladhar hills, tourists are still arriving for trekking, creating a risky situation. ASP Kangra, Veer Bahadur, said that the district’s major trekking destinations, including Bir, McLeod Ganj, Palampur and Dharamshala, have become sensitive areas due to the current bad weather conditions. He said that higher regions of the Dhauladhar Range, including Triund, Kareri and Himani Chamunda, are witnessing snowfall, making trekking dangerous.
The police have appealed to tourists to check the weather forecast thoroughly before heading out for trekking and to always travel with a local guide. Tourists have also been advised to carry essential safety equipment to deal with any emergency.
ASP Veer Bahadur further said that if any trekker gets stranded on the route, they should immediately inform the local police so that a rescue operation can be launched in time. Due to the prevailing bad weather, he has advised people to avoid trekking in high-altitude areas for now.
