Protests against the decision to merge the Girls School in Dharamshala with a Boys School continue to intensify, with students once again taking to the streets on Tuesday after the declaration of annual examination results. The protesting students demanded that the government immediately withdraw its notification regarding the merger and warned that the agitation would be intensified if the decision was not reversed. Parents and members of the School Management Committee also joined the protest in support of the students.

Students and parents said that the Girls School is not just an educational institution for them, but also a symbol of safety, trust and a comfortable learning environment. During the protest, students raised slogans such as, “The Girls School is ours and dearer to us than life.”

Parents argued that the Girls School provides a secure and comfortable atmosphere for girls, something they believe would not be possible in a Boys School. They urged the government to immediately roll back the decision.

The students also made it clear that they are not willing to study in a Boys School and warned that the protest movement would become stronger if the government failed to reconsider its decision.
