National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar reviewed women’s safety and welfare measures in Manali on Friday, saying stronger protections were needed in the hill town because of its popularity with tourists from India and abroad.

During the meeting, Rahatkar highlighted Manali’s popularity as a major tourist destination, attracting visitors from across India and abroad, and stressed the need to ensure the safety of women tourists so they can travel without fear. She directed officials and police authorities to strengthen arrangements for women’s security in the region.

Reviewing the commission’s work in Kullu, she said the NCW is actively working across the country to promote women’s safety, implement related laws, and monitor welfare initiatives. She added that special attention is required in hilly areas like Manali, and sought details from officials on steps being taken for women’s protection.

Rahatkar noted that the local police have made adequate arrangements for women’s safety, and said the commission will continue to offer suggestions to further improve these measures.

She also said that visits to hilly and border regions are being undertaken to understand the challenges faced by women in such areas, reiterating that the commission remains committed to addressing issues of domestic violence and exploitation across the country with seriousness.
