Shimla, March 3
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the state government over its decision to affiliate government schools with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and to introduce a separate teachers’ cadre along with a new selection examination. During a hearing in Shimla on Tuesday, the court directed the government to file its response within a week.
The petition has been filed by the Joint Teachers Federation, which includes the Joint Teachers Front of Himachal Pradesh and other associations.
Teacher groups have opposed the move, arguing that bringing certain schools under a separate framework could create divisions within the state’s education system. They say the proposal may affect the seniority and promotion prospects of existing teachers.
The petitioners have also questioned the need for a separate selection process, stating that it may cast doubts on the qualifications of teachers already in service.
