Panel assesses damage across Manali, Banjar, Ani

A six-member Inter-Ministerial Central team inspected disaster-affected sites in Manali, Banjar and Ani on Wednesday to assess damage from heavy rain, floods and landslides in Kullu district during the monsoon.

Led by Union Ministry of Home Affairs Joint Secretary M. Ramachandrudu, the team examined damaged drinking water schemes, landslide-hit areas, fishery facilities and other affected assets during the second day of its visit.

The team inspected a drinking water scheme in Old Manali that was damaged during the 2025 disaster. It then visited Solang village to assess landslide damage and the trout farm at Patlikuhal to assess losses to fisheries-related assets.

In Banjar, the team inspected several locations where landslides had damaged assets. It also visited a landslide-affected site at Khanag in the Ani area.

Ramachandrudu said the Centre had constituted the team for an on-ground assessment of damage caused by natural disasters during the monsoon. The team had also visited affected areas in Chamba and Kangra districts.

He said the assessment covered damage to drinking water schemes, roads, houses, power infrastructure, fishery centres, agricultural and horticultural areas, landslide-hit locations and sites affected by land subsidence.

Ramachandrudu said the team would assess the comprehensive damage report submitted by the Himachal Pradesh government. Its recommendations regarding relief assistance would then be sent to the Centre.

The team included officials from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Jal Shakti, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development, Road Transport and Highways and Finance. ISRO scientist Dr Shashivardhan Reddy from the National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, was also part of the team.

Himachal Pradesh Additional Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management) Sunil Verma, ADM Surjeet Rathore, SDM Manali Gunjit Cheema, and other disaster management officials were present during the visit.
