The Lok Sabha has concluded its sixth session of the 18th Parliament, with the Speaker describing the proceedings as highly productive. Speaking at the end of the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the House met for 15 sittings between December 1 to 19, clocking a total of 92 hours and 25 minutes. He said the productivity of the House during the session stood at 111%. During the session, 10 government bills were introduced and eight were passed. These included amendments to tax and excise laws, insurance legislation, an appropriation bill, and measures related to nuclear energy, rural employment and livelihoods, and goods and services tax in Manipur.
The House also approved the first batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2025–26, following which the Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2025 was passed. Several long debates were held during the session. On 8 December, members discussed the completion of 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram for more than 11 hours, with 65 MPs taking part. Electoral reforms were debated over two days on 9 and 10 December, with contributions from 63 members.
Parliamentary business included extensive questioning of the government. A total of 300 starred questions were admitted, of which 72 were answered orally, while 3,449 unstarred questions were listed. Members raised more than 400 issues of urgent public importance during Zero Hour, alongside hundreds of matters under Rule 377.
In addition, 35 statements were made under parliamentary directions, more than 2,100 official papers were tabled, and 41 reports from parliamentary standing committees were presented. The session also saw the introduction of 137 private members’ bills. One private member’s resolution was withdrawn after discussion. Separately, the Indian Parliament welcomed the Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, and his delegation during an official visit on December 2.
