A Hindu man was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district. In a statement issued on Friday, the interim administration confirmed the killing of Dipu Chandra Das and said two individuals had been identified as key instigators of the violence. The government said those responsible would not be spared, as the case renewed concerns over mob lynching, minority safety and the rule of law in the Muslim-majority nation.

Officials said the victim was attacked in public, lynched and later set on fire. Police have opened an investigation and said efforts are under way to arrest all those involved. The government identified the two alleged instigators as Mir Farhad, linked to Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, and Salahuddin Ammar, described as a student leader. Authorities said the two were also involved in protests near the Indian diplomatic mission in Rajshahi, which created panic from Thursday night until Friday afternoon.

Officials further alleged that both men have links with banned radical organisations, adding that security has been tightened in sensitive areas to prevent further unrest. Investigations into the wider network behind the violence are continuing.

Human rights groups have warned that incidents of lynching and mob violence undermine communal harmony and public trust in the justice system.
