Punjab is set to receive a major industrial push, with the Trident Group announcing an investment of ₹2,000 crore to expand operations in the state. The announcement was made by Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, who said the move aligns with the government’s efforts to build a modern, competitive industrial ecosystem under the leadership of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
According to Arora, ₹1,500 crore will be invested in Barnala to expand terry towel production and modernise paper manufacturing facilities. A further ₹500 crore will be directed towards establishing a corporate office and capacity-building centre in Mohali. The investment is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 semi-skilled rural women.
He said the decision reflects growing investor confidence in Punjab, driven by the state’s industry-friendly policies and reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business. “Punjab’s progressive policy interventions are making the state a preferred destination for investors,” he said at a press conference. Trident Group Chairman and Rajya Sabha MP Padma Rajinder Gupta said the company plans to expand its yarn business and strengthen its textile capabilities to meet rising domestic and global demand. He added that the paper manufacturing unit would undergo technological upgrades to support more efficient and environmentally sustainable production.
Gupta said the company is also scaling up terry towel production and establishing a dedicated capacity-building centre to train local youth. A new corporate office in Mohali, he added, would help streamline operations and attract skilled professionals. Trident Group currently operates facilities in Sanghera and Dhaula in Barnala district, and in Budhni in Madhya Pradesh. The company directly employs around 10,000 families and supports an additional 30,000 through indirect employment.
