Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has described trafficking as a “grave exploitative crime” that targets vulnerable groups and leaves devastating long-term consequences. Speaking at a state-level consultation on human trafficking in Chandigarh on Tuesday, DGP Yadav stressed the urgent need for interstate and interagency coordination. He called for closer collaboration between police, labour, women and child departments, and non-governmental organisations. The consultation was organised by the Punjab Police’s Community Affairs Division in partnership with Just Rights for Children at the State Judicial Academy. It brought together representatives from law enforcement agencies, government departments, commissions, and civil society.
Senior officers from the Railway Protection Force, Rajasthan Police, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), and the Punjab State Commissions for Women and Children shared insights on law enforcement, cyber monitoring, awareness campaigns, and stronger implementation as vital tools in tackling trafficking networks.
