Punjab Police have arrested two men and seized foreign-made weapons in what they described as a cross-border smuggling operation linked to Pakistan. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said officers acted on a specific intelligence input and recovered five pistols (.30 bore) and nine magazines from the accused. The arrested men, identified as Surinder Singh and Gurpreet, were allegedly working under the directions of handlers based abroad.
Preliminary investigations suggest the weapons were sourced from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity and were intended for delivery to criminal gangs in Punjab. An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered at Sadar police station in Fazilka. Yadav said the investigation aims to expose the full network, including its supply routes and local operatives.
In a post on X, the DGP said Punjab Police remained “resolute in fighting cross-border crime and organised smuggling networks to keep Punjab safe and secure.”
