Adani Power limited , India’s largest private sector thermal power producer, has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to supply 2,274 MW of electricity to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). The power will be sourced from a 2,400 MW thermal power project that Adani Power will develop at Pirpainti in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district.

The company emerged as the lowest bidder in a competitive tender process, quoting a final tariff of Rs 6.075 per KWh. The power will be supplied from a new greenfield 3×800 MW Ultra-supercritical plant, developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning within 48 months, with full completion expected in 60 months. Fuel for the plant will be sourced via a coal linkage granted under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy. Adani Power expects to invest approximately $3 billion in the project, which is projected to create around 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and about 3,000 once operational.

Further, the company anticipates receiving the Letter of Award (LoA) shortly, after which a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) will be signed with the state utilities. They are pleased to have won the bid to develop and operate this project in Bihar. Their ultra-supercritical plant will deliver reliable, competitively priced, and environmentally advanced power, contributing to the state’s industrial growth,” said S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power.
