Punjab Police on Monday have busted a cross-border arms smuggling module operating out of Amritsar and arrested one operative acting on the directions of a Pakistan-based handler. The recovery includes five pistols — two 9mm, two .30 bore, and one .32 bore — intercepted near the Indo-Pak border. The accused was allegedly en route to deliver the consignment when a police team apprehended him, said DGP Gaurav Yadav. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), DGP Yadav said, “Preliminary investigations point to a Pakistan-based smuggler. The seized weapons were intended for criminals and gangsters to disrupt peace and harmony in Punjab.” An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. Police say further investigation is underway to uncover the broader network and its cross-border linkages. The arrest is part of a broader intelligence-driven crackdown against international arms trafficking and organised crime in the border state.
