Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the BHARATPOL portal, developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Sunday. Shah described the portal as a transformative technological platform designed to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies domestically and internationally.
The portal includes five key modules including Connect, INTERPOL Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources. Shah highlighted that the Connect module would enable Indian law enforcement agencies to function as an extension of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi), ensuring swift and secure transmission of requests for INTERPOL notices.
“The system will allow us to locate criminals swiftly, both within India and globally,” Shah said. He added that the INTERPOL References module simplifies the process of seeking international assistance, while the Broadcast module facilitates instant dissemination of global alerts. The Resources module will focus on document management and capacity-building initiatives for law enforcement agencies.
During the event, 35 CBI officers were awarded police medals, including the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation. Senior officials such as the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the CBI attended the ceremony.
Shah underscored the government’s commitment to advancing crime control mechanisms through real-time data sharing and international cooperation. “Modern systems like BHARATPOL will ensure that criminals who escape to other countries will no longer evade Indian laws,” he said.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India in its “Amrit Kaal,” Shah said the goal is to make India the third-largest economy by 2027 and a fully developed nation by 2047. He emphasized that the launch of BHARATPOL is part of a broader roadmap to position India as a global leader through scientific planning and effective implementation of initiatives.
Shah called for continuous system upgrades to tackle emerging global challenges, stating, “BHARATPOL represents a significant step forward in modernizing our law enforcement capabilities.”
