Delhi Assembly elections will held on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced on Tuesday at a press conference in New Delhi.Kumar stated that over 1.55 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots across 70 Assembly constituencies, including 12 reserved seats. The city will have 13,033 polling stations to facilitate voting.
With the election schedule now announced, the model code of conduct has come into force in the national capital, Kumar added. Kumar dismissed allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) manipulation, asserting that the machines are tamper-proof and cannot be hacked. “Every claim of manipulation has been thoroughly investigated and debunked. EVMs uphold free and fair elections,” he said.
The polls will be conducted in a single phase. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, with January 20 as the deadline for withdrawals. Kumar noted that over 2 lakh first-time voters would participate in this election.
Special arrangements will be made to ensure accessibility for elderly voters and persons with disabilities. Additionally, citizens above 85 years can opt for voting from home, he added.
