Two alleged drug traffickers arrested with more than 6.7 kilograms of opium in Pinjore were produced before the Kalka court on Thursday and later sent to judicial custody.

According to Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) Kurukshetra Unit In-charge Inspector Mange Ram, the operation was launched following a specific tip-off that Varinder Singh, a resident of Manakpur Nanak Chand village in Pinjore, was involved in supplying opium to truck drivers on the Baddi Pinjore road.

Acting on the information, the HSNCB team reached near a service station in the area and spotted a man arriving on a scooter from the direction of Manakpur Nanak Chand village. When police signaled him to stop, he allegedly attempted to turn back, but was quickly intercepted by the team.

A search of the scooter led to the recovery of 1.695 kilograms of opium concealed in the storage compartment beneath the seat. During the operation, police also arrested another accused, identified as Kali Ram. Officials said 5.025 kilograms of opium were recovered from his possession.

The total seizure in the case stood at 6.720 kilograms of opium. Inspector Mange Ram said both accused were produced before the Kalka court after completion of police remand proceedings, following which they were sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.

He added that Haryana Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau are continuing their crackdown on drug traffickers to curb the spread of narcotics in society. Officials have also appealed to the public to report any information related to drug trafficking or illegal narcotics trade on the toll free helpline number 90508-91508 to help authorities take timely action.
