New Delhi, June 10
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received congratulations from several world leaders as he prepares to become India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister.
Leaders from across the world praised Modi’s leadership, highlighting India’s economic growth, social development and increasing role on the global stage under his tenure.
In a letter dated 8 June, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake described the milestone as a reflection of the trust repeatedly placed in Mr Modi by the people of India. He said India’s economic and social transformation under Modi’s leadership had inspired countries beyond its borders, including Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan leader also referred to the close relationship between the two nations, noting India’s support during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis in 2022. Modi visited Sri Lanka in April 2025 when he was awarded the country’s highest civilian honour for a foreign leader Mitra Vibhushana.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape praised Modi in a personal video message, calling him a “role model” and highlighting India’s efforts to lift millions of people out of poverty. He also expressed a desire to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Marape recalled Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea in 2023, the first by an Indian Prime Minister, which marked a significant step in India’s engagement with Pacific Island nations.
Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said India had emerged as an influential voice in global affairs under Modi’s leadership. She pointed to achievements in foreign policy, economic growth, infrastructure and social development during his time in office.
She also noted Modi’s visit to Trinidad and Tobago in July 2025, the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in more than two decades, which coincided with commemorations marking 180 years since the arrival of Indian immigrants to the Caribbean nation.
The messages underline India’s growing international profile and the strengthening of its diplomatic partnerships across Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean during Modi’s tenure.
