Woman allegedly assaulted and shot dead near Patran bus stand; police probe suspects illicit relationship angle.

A woman was allegedly beaten and shot dead by car-borne assailants near the bus stand in Patran city of Patiala district late last night, with police launching an investigation into the killing.
The deceased has been identified as Rajinder Kaur, a resident of Patran. According to preliminary information, she was sitting in a three-wheeler when the assailants arrived in a car. They allegedly attacked and severely assaulted her before opening fire and fleeing the spot.
The three-wheeler driver was also hit by a bullet during the attack. He was injured and subsequently referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for treatment.
According to information provided by Patiala SP Vaibhav Chaudhary, an FIR numbered 266/26 has been registered at Patran police station in connection with the incident.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the killing was allegedly linked to an illicit relationship. A man identified as Kulwinder has emerged as the alleged accused in the case, according to the police.
The police are continuing their investigation and efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the accused. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
