Saini says young people need education, skills and employment opportunities to keep them away from drugs
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said ensuring citizens’ security and restoring Punjab’s economy were essential first steps towards achieving Ram Rajya, as envisioned by Maharishi Valmiki. He called for collective efforts to build a fearless, drug-free and prosperous society.
Addressing the Bhagwan Valmiki Prakatotsav Vishal Tirth Yatra in Jalandhar, Saini urged people to follow Valmiki’s teachings of equality, harmony and compassion. The pilgrimage is being undertaken from Jalandhar to Shri Ram Tirth in Amritsar, a site associated with Bhagwan Valmiki’s penance.
Describing Valmiki as a guide to humanity and a champion of moral values and social justice, Saini said the Ramayana offered enduring lessons in righteous living, character building and human values. He said Valmiki’s teachings emphasised that a person’s greatness depended on actions and thoughts rather than birth.
Saini expressed concern over Punjab’s situation, saying young people were increasingly being drawn towards despair and drug addiction. He said deteriorating law and order and administrative disorder had left citizens, farmers, workers and youth feeling let down.
He said protecting young people from drugs and providing quality education, skills and employment would be a fitting tribute to Valmiki’s teachings. He also called for unity, social equality and brotherhood.
Highlighting Haryana’s welfare measures, Saini said 40 lakh people were benefiting from the inclusion of poor families under the Ayushman scheme. He said houses were being provided to two lakh families, while women were receiving Rs 2,100 per month.
Describing Haryana and Punjab as two arms of the same body, united by their food traditions, history and culture, he said the BJP government in Haryana followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.
Saini said Haryana wanted neighbouring Punjab to prosper and urged people to support governance focused on development, honesty and employment. He called for a united fight against drugs to help make Punjab prosperous again.
The event was attended by chief organiser and Bhagwan Valmiki Utsav Samiti president Vipan Sabharwal, Mahamandleshwar Bansi Dass, Keshav Das, Baba Rajkishore, Jagjit Singh Maharaj, Amarjit Qadri, district president Ashok Sareen, Brijinder Singh Hamdard, representatives of local religious organisations, saints and citizens.
