Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to the US next week. Trump, while campaigning in Michigan, praised Modi as a “fantastic man” but described India as a “very big abuser” in trade relations. Modi’s visit, scheduled from September 21 to 23, will feature his participation in the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. The summit, hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden on September 21, will bring together the leaders of India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. India has agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025, following a U.S. request.
The Ministry of External Affairs in an official statement said that the summit will assess the progress of the Quad alliance over the past year and outline future goals, focusing on assisting Indo-Pacific nations in achieving their development objectives. On September 23, Modi will address the United Nations General Assembly at the “Summit of the Future” in New York. The event, themed “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” is expected to draw several global leaders. On the sidelines, Modi will hold bilateral talks with various world leaders to discuss shared concerns.
Additionally, Modi will engage with the Indian diaspora in New York on September 22 and meet with CEOs of leading U.S. companies to explore collaboration in fields such as AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Discussions with thought leaders and stakeholders will also form part of the visit.
