In a major breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling network, arresting three accused and recovering 25 kg of heroin, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of a cross-border smuggler and were involved in collecting heroin consignments from different locations before distributing them across Punjab.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar.
Officials said further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages, identify all associates involved in the network, and uncover the entire drug supply chain.
Punjab Police said it remains committed to dismantling cross-border drug trafficking networks and ensuring the state is safe and drug-free.
