Family alleges old enmity behind killing: police probe underway

Patiala, August 31

A 16-year-old boy was allegedly killed in a sharp-edged weapon attack at Seuna Chowk in Ranjit Nagar, Patiala, late at night, police said. The deceased has been identified as Tanveer, a Class 9 student.

According to the information available, Tanveer was attacked with sharp-edged weapons at Seuna Chowk. He died following the attack. After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and began an investigation.

Police took possession of the body and shifted it to the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

Tanveer’s family has accused their neighbours of allegedly arranging the attack through other persons. His mother claimed that the neighbours had called men who attacked and killed her son.

The family also alleged that the incident could be linked to an old dispute. According to them, Tanveer had been involved in a fight with someone at school around two years ago, following which a compromise had been reached at the police station. The family suspects that the alleged killing may have been carried out due to the old enmity.

The family further alleged that the persons they suspect are involved in the illegal sale of ‘chitta’ and are drug traffickers. These allegations have not been independently established.

Police said all aspects of the case were being investigated. Persons linked to the incident were being questioned, and the police assured the family that efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused. Police also assured the family that appropriate justice would be provided.

The exact motive behind Tanveer’s killing and the identities of those involved will become clear as the investigation progresses.
