Special arrangements allow sisters to tie rakhi on inmates’ wrists during a dedicated meeting

Patiala Central Jail has organised a special meeting for inmates on the occasion of Rakhi, allowing sisters to tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists as part of a special initiative by the jail administration.

Patiala Central Jail Superintendent Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal said the special arrangement had been made because sisters were not permitted to tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists during regular meetings.

“During a normal meeting, sisters cannot tie rakhi on their brothers’ wrists. Therefore, today, the jail administration has organised a special meeting for sisters and brothers, where sisters can tie rakhi on their brothers’ wrists and celebrate the festival that symbolises the bond of love between siblings,” Dhaliwal said.

He said the initiative was aimed at enabling inmates to celebrate the festival with their sisters despite being lodged in the jail.

According to Dhaliwal, the administration expects around 400 to 500 sisters to visit the jail and tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists as part of the special programme.

The initiative provides inmates with an opportunity to observe the festival with their family members and maintain emotional ties with their loved ones while serving their sentences.
