Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann on Friday announced a campaign against gangster culture in Punjab and Haryana, urging people to unite against criminal activities and calling upon the youth to stay away from crime. Recent reporting identifies Mann as the president of SAD (Amritsar).

Addressing a press conference in Panchkula, Mann said people should not be intimidated by gangsters and criminals and called for collective efforts to counter criminal activities. He also urged people to cooperate with the police and administration in maintaining law and order.

Simranjit said the campaign aimed to create public awareness and build a social environment against gangster culture. Referring to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, he said such criminals sought to create fear among people but the youth should not be influenced by them.

He appealed to young people to focus on their families, education, employment and future, saying involvement in crime could destroy their prospects.

Simranjit claimed that the BJP-led Central Government was taking steps to bring back gangsters based abroad to India. He said gangster activities remained a concern in Punjab and called for strict action against those involved.

‘If the BJP formed the government in Punjab after the upcoming Assembly election, strict action will be taken against gangsters,” he added. He also referred to action against gangsterism in Haryana and said intensified efforts in Punjab would increase pressure on criminals operating from abroad.

“The campaign would not remain confined to the political level and efforts would be made to involve people across Punjab and Haryana.”

He urged people to inform the police or administration about criminal or suspicious activities rather than taking the law into their own hands. He also urged the youth to stay away from gangster culture and focus on education, employment and social welfare activities.
