Bindal targets Sukhu government over alleged unfulfilled job guarantees, diversion of panchayat funds and proposed lottery revival, while announcing statewide BJP protests and service activities.
Shimla , August 31
Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Sunday announced that the party will organize a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years of public service as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.
Bindal said the campaign would promote the message of service and the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat-2047’. It will begin on September 17 with lamp-lighting ceremonies and blood donation camps across the state. Cleanliness drives, medical camps, plantation activities, water conservation programs and service initiatives at orphanages and old-age homes will also be organized.
He said the BJP had held public movements at 121 locations in August and would stage protests at 170 locations across Himachal in September over local issues against the Congress government. Seventeen district-level protests would focus on issues concerning women and the promises made to them.
Bindal said the BJP would seek an account of the Congress government’s electoral guarantees and claimed that around 1.07 lakh posts were vacant in the state government, while employment-related promises had not been fulfilled.
On Panchayati Raj institutions, Bindal alleged that the decision to allocate 50 percent of the 16th Finance Commission funds to the Jal Shakti and Public Works departments was an attempt to curtail the powers of panchayats. He said the BJP would oppose any move to undermine their rights.
Targeting the government over its decision to restart lottery operations, Bindal said revenue generation could not come at the cost of families’ future. He said lotteries were not acceptable in Himachal Pradesh and urged the government to focus on sustainable revenue through development, investment, tourism, industry and employment.
