‘Send Me Rs 500 For Cab’: Scammer Poses As Supreme Court Chief Justice, Case Filed

The Supreme Court of India has lodged a cyber crime complaint with the Delhi Police against a social media handle that impersonated Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and requested money for a cab fare. The incident came to light after CJI Chandrachud noticed a screenshot of the fraudulent message circulating on social media on Sunday. Acting on this, the Supreme Court’s security department filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the cyber crime department, the news outlet Hindustan Times reported.

According to the news outlet’s report,  the scammer, using CJI Chandrachud’s name and photo,  contacted an X user named Kailash Meghwal, asking for ₹500 to hire a cab to attend a Collegium meeting, with a promise to return the money upon reaching the Supreme Court. The impersonator claimed to be “stranded” at Connaught Place (CP) in Delhi, writing, “Hello, I am CJI and we have an urgent meeting of the Collegium, and I am stuck at Connaught Place. Can you send me 500rs for a cab?” To make the scam appear more authentic, the fraudster even added “sent from iPad” at the end of the message, as per the Hindustan Times report.
