New Delhi, July 3
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Friday said the alleged theft of donations from collection boxes at the Ram temple in Ayodhya had deeply affected the sentiments of devotees and called for strong action against anyone found guilty after an official investigation.
In a statement, Hosabale described the alleged theft as a serious incident that had caused distress among devotees and the wider Hindu community. He said the temple trust should treat the matter as an exceptional case and strengthen its management and operational systems to help maintain public confidence. He said devotees expected the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to address any shortcomings in the temple’s administration and ensure greater transparency in financial management.
Hosabale noted that, following a request from the trust, the Uttar Pradesh government had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged theft and initiate legal proceedings based on its findings.
He said it was important that the investigation be completed promptly and that anyone found responsible should face strict punishment. He also expressed hope that the inquiry would remove uncertainty surrounding the case.
Referring to the Ram temple as a symbol of faith for millions of devotees, Hosabale said it had been built after decades of public support and sacrifice. He expressed confidence that the temple trust would strengthen governance through transparent financial practices and efficient administration.
Hosabale also urged members of the Hindu community to remain calm and exercise restraint while the investigation continues. He alleged that some “anti-Hindu and anti-national forces” were attempting to use the incident to tarnish the image of Hinduism and appealed to people not to allow the issue to be exploited.
The alleged theft is currently under investigation by the Special Investigation Team constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government.
