Kullu, July 2
Heavy monsoon rainfall caused widespread disruption across Kullu district on Thursday, flooded the BSNL Colony in Ward No. 9 of Kullu town, blocking 18 rural roads and disrupting power supply after faults developed in 101 electricity transformers. The district administration has begun restoration work on the affected roads, while electricity board personnel are working to restore power supply in areas impacted by faults in high-tension lines. In Kullu town, rainwater entered the BSNL Colony following heavy rainfall during the morning, causing inconvenience to residents. Locals informed the Kullu Municipal Council and demanded improvements to the area’s drainage system to prevent repeated flooding during the monsoon.
Nancy, a resident of the BSNL Colony, said the locality has been facing the same problem for several years.
“Every time it rains, water enters our colony, causing severe inconvenience. Mud accumulates throughout the area, making it difficult even to walk. The Municipal Council should improve the drainage system so that rainwater does not enter the colony again,” she said.
Another resident, Anshul, said rainwater enters the colony every monsoon season, leaving behind mud and other waste.
“We clean the mud ourselves every year. We had informed the Municipal Council about the problem earlier, but no permanent solution has been found. Repairing the drains could resolve this recurring issue,” he said.
Ward No. 9 councillor Jeevan Kala said a Municipal Council team had inspected the affected area and directed officials to clean the drains.
“The drainage system will be improved to ensure that rainwater does not enter the colony again,” she said.
