Chandigarh, May 30
Residents across several parts of Punjab woke up to cooler and more pleasant weather on Saturday after rainfall brought relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region over the past several days. Showers were reported from Chandigarh, Mohali, Kharar, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Rupnagar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures.
According to officials, the rainfall provided much-needed respite after maximum temperatures across Punjab and Haryana remained above 40 degrees Celsius in recent days. The change in weather brought improved conditions for residents who had been enduring prolonged hot, humid weather.
Data released by the Meteorological Department showed that Chandigarh received 6.4 mm of rainfall. The city also recorded a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, which was seven degrees below the seasonal average.
Among the reported locations, Pathankot received the highest rainfall at 18 mm. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar recorded 1.5 mm of rainfall, while Rupnagar received 2.5 mm. The rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief from the prevailing heat and may help maintain cooler weather conditions across parts of the region in the coming days.
