For many Punjabis living overseas, distance can make resolving problems back home difficult. Property disputes, pension issues and family matters were among the concerns raised on Tuesday as the Punjab government held its monthly “Online Milni” with members of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community.
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh interacted with Punjabis from several countries, hearing complaints ranging from land and property disputes to matrimonial issues, fraud and other personal grievances.
The minister said the state government was committed to ensuring that issues affecting overseas Punjabis were addressed in a transparent, fair and time-bound manner.
Retired Punjab government employees living abroad also highlighted difficulties in completing pension verification including problems receiving one-time passwords (OTPs) outside India and other technical hurdles affecting pension payments.
Dr Ravjot Singh directed officials to prioritise every complaint, examine each case under the law and contact complainants directly wherever necessary to speed up the resolution process.
He said the government’s aim was not only to listen to grievances but also to ensure they were resolved effectively.
According to the minister, the monthly online interaction has become an important platform for maintaining communication between the Punjab government and the global Punjabi community. He said the initiative would continue to protect the rights of overseas Punjabis and strengthen their connection with their home state.
Senior officials, including Secretary NRI Affairs Mohammad Tayyab, ADGP of the NRI Wing R.K. Jaiswal and Special Secretary Amandeep Kaur, also participated in the online meeting.
