Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday announced that Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major multi-layered cross-border drug cartel linked to foreign-based handlers, seizing 4.083 kg of methamphetamine (ICE) and 1.032 kg of heroin. According to the preliminary investigation, intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of three operatives who were allegedly coordinating with Pakistan-based and other overseas smugglers through WhatsApp. The FIRs under the NDPS Act have been registered at Gate Hakima and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar. The Police officials said the investigation is continuing to map the network’s backward and forward linkages.
