In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Punjab Police has busted a cross-border heroin smuggling operation in Amritsar, arresting two individuals and recovering 4.5 kilograms of heroin along with ₹11 lakh. The arrested suspects have been identified as Gurbhej Singh, also known as Bheja, and Abhijeet Singh, also known as Happy. According to preliminary investigations, Gurbhej is believed to be in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler named Rana and played a key role in coordinating drug consignments across the border.
The duo was apprehended while attempting to sell the heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at ANTF Police Station in SAS Nagar. Further investigations are underway to trace the wider network involved.
DGP Yadav reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling what he described as “Pakistan-sponsored narco-terror networks” and to ensuring a drug-free Punjab.
