Punjab’s Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur has dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling network, arresting a key supplier and recovering five .30 bore Glock pistols and live cartridges, police said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Lakhwinder Singh from Khehra Ke Uttar village, was arrested during a targeted operation in the Kulgarhi area. Officials said he has a prior criminal record and had been released from jail only a month ago.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations suggest the weapons were smuggled into India through cross-border routes and were intended for further distribution within criminal networks. He added that efforts are underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the module to identify others involved in the supply chain.

According to Assistant Inspector General (CI Ferozepur) Gursewak Singh, police acted on specific intelligence about the suspect’s role as a local arms supplier.

A special operation led to his arrest and recovery of a consignment of five sophisticated pistols. Officials said the accused was allegedly tasked with supplying weapons to criminal operatives on instructions from a handler.

Police believe more arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation expands.

A case has been registered under the Arms Act at Kulgarhi police station, and further inquiry is ongoing.
