Punjab Police bust cross-border arms smuggling module

The Punjab Police have arrested six people, including a juvenile, after busting what they say was a Pakistan-linked cross-border arms smuggling network operating in the Amritsar region.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Monday that the arrests followed intelligence inputs indicating the movement of a weapons consignment. Officers from the Amritsar Commissionerate recovered six pistols — five of .30 bore and one PX5 9mm — during the operation.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler via social media platforms. The handler is alleged to have sent GPS coordinates for the drop-off points of the weapons.

Officials said the organised network supplied arms to criminal groups active in the Majha and Doaba regions, potentially enabling violent activities. An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered at Cantonment police station in Amritsar.

Police say efforts are under way to identify the intended recipients, trace financial routes and map the gang’s wider connections. The Punjab Police said they remain committed to disrupting cross-border arms smuggling networks and ensuring public safety.
