Chandigarh, July 1
The Punjab Police on Wednesday dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling network in Amritsar with the arrest of two men and recovery of seven sophisticated pistols along with 40 rounds of live ammunition.  The suspects were allegedly in contact with foreign-based smugglers through social media platforms and received consignments of illegal weapons through cross-border routes. Investigators believe the firearms were intended for distribution to criminal groups, DGP Gaurav Yadav said in his post on X.
A case has been registered at Sultanwind Police Station in Amritsar, and officers are continuing investigations to trace both the source of the weapons and the wider network involved in the alleged smuggling operation The Police are working to identify additional suspects and uncover the backward and forward links in the supply chain. The Punjab Police said the operation reflects its continued efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking, organised crime and cross-border criminal networks as part of its zero-tolerance approach to such offences.
