Chandigarh, May 1
The Punjab Police have arrested a suspected operative linked to foreign-based gangsters in a joint operation by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and SAS Nagar Police on Friday. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said officers recovered a .32 calibre pistol and five live cartridges from the accused during the operation on Friday. The police said the preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was working under instructions from handlers based abroad and had been assigned several targets across the Tricity region, which includes Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. The officials said the arrest may have prevented serious criminal activity in the area.
The operation comes after another joint crackdown on 18 April, when police said they dismantled a gangster module and arrested four suspects. Further investigations are under way to trace the wider network and identify additional links. Punjab Police said they remain committed to dismantling organised crime groups and maintaining security across Punjab.
