Patiala, April 30
Nine youths deported from Australia were brought to the Patiala Police Lines on Thursday after arriving at Delhi airport, where authorities completed verification before handing them over to their families, officials said.
According to officials, the deported individuals were first taken to the Patiala Police Lines for verification procedures before being released to their respective families.
Among them was Harpreet Singh, a resident of Moga, whose family said he had been sent to Australia after a significant financial investment. The family also stated that he was married and later faced complications due to a dispute with his spouse, which reportedly led to issues with documentation.
They alleged that due to pending or unprocessed paperwork, he was declared a visa defaulter under Australian immigration rules, resulting in his deportation.
While Harpreet Singh’s family spoke on record, other families present at the site chose not to appear on camera. However, some of them, speaking off the record, claimed that several deportees faced similar issues, including delays or non-processing of documents abroad, which led to visa complications.
Police officials confirmed that all nine individuals underwent verification at the Patiala Police Lines before being formally handed over to their families. No further legal action has been reported at this stage.
Authorities said the matter is being handled in accordance with standard procedures following deportation, and no additional violations have been reported so far.
