Patiala, June 30

The Powercom Transco Outsourced Workers Union (AITUC), Punjab, continued its protest outside the main gate of the PSPCL headquarters in Patiala, as the agitation entered its 14th day. The union has accused PSPCL management and the Punjab government of failing to fulfill commitments made regarding outsourced employees.

Union state president Harvinder Sharma Faridkot and other leaders said that during a meeting with Punjab Power Minister Tarnpreet Singh Saund, PSPCL CMD, and senior officials, it was agreed that data verification of all employees would be completed and that a notification would be issued by 15 June 2026.

They said the process for merging workers into the department under the CHB policy was also supposed to be completed, followed by the issuance of offer letters. However, the union alleged that PSPCL management took no action even after the deadline passed.

The leaders said the union was forced to resume its agitation from 16 June 2026 due to the delay. They added that a meeting held on 22 June 2026 with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, PSPCL CMD and senior officials, which lasted nearly six hours, ended without any concrete outcome.

According to the union, the conditions and proposals put forward by PSPCL management during the meeting were not acceptable.

The union further stated that another meeting was held on 28-06-2026 at the DC Complex Sri Amritsar Sahib, with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and power board officials. The meeting, which lasted about 2 hours, also failed to reach an agreement on their demands.

Union leaders said that although some organisations had withdrawn from the protest after reaching an agreement, the Powercom Transco Outsourced Workers Union (AITUC) Punjab and other supporting organisations remained firm on continuing the struggle.

They warned that the protest would continue until the CHB policy is implemented, the notification is issued, and employees receive justice in accordance with their demands.
