The Punjab School Education Board on Wednesday declared the Class 12 examination results, with girls dominating the merit list and securing the top three positions across the state. The overall pass percentage stood at 91.46 per cent, reflecting a strong performance by students across Punjab.
Supneet Kaur from Gurukul Academy Public Senior Secondary School in Mansa emerged as the state topper after scoring a perfect 500 out of 500 marks in the science stream. Suhani Chauhan of BCM Senior Secondary School in Ludhiana secured the second position, while Vanit Johar from Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School in Ludhiana bagged the third rank. Both students belong to the humanities stream.
According to the results released by the board, a total of 2,65,417 students appeared for the examination, of whom 2,42,755 passed.
Girls once again outperformed boys in the board examinations. The pass percentage among girls stood at 94.73 per cent, while boys recorded 88.52 per cent.
Among various streams, commerce students registered the highest pass percentage at 98.78 per cent. Science students followed closely with 98.47 per cent. The humanities and vocational streams recorded pass percentages of 87.74 per cent and 87.80 per cent, respectively.
The results also highlighted a marginally better performance by rural schools, which recorded a pass percentage of 91.63 per cent compared to 91.24 per cent in urban areas.
Government schools achieved a pass percentage of 91.41 per cent, while non-government schools recorded 92.68 per cent. Aided schools registered a pass percentage of 88.44 per cent.
District-wise, Amritsar recorded the highest overall pass percentage in Punjab at 96 per cent. Pathankot followed with 95.66 per cent, while SBS Nagar secured 95.62 per cent. Gurdaspur recorded 95.36 per cent.
The board also stated that 5,109 students failed the examination, while 17,495 students were placed in the compartment category.
The declaration of results has now paved the way for students to begin the admission process for higher education courses across colleges and universities.
