Shimla, June 3

The Himachal Pradesh Police have initiated swift legal action following an incident in the Secretariat area of Shimla, where certain individuals allegedly entered a restricted zone without permission and staged a protest, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to the public.

According to an official press statement, a case has been registered at the Police Station, East Shimla, under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include obstruction of public roads, violation of lawful orders, and causing public nuisance.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the protesters gathered in a restricted area, despite designated areas for demonstrations being available. The gathering reportedly caused significant disruption to traffic around the Secretariat and adjoining areas, affecting commuters and the general public.

While reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, the police stated that they fully respect citizens’ and organisations’ right to express their views peacefully and within the framework of law. However, it was emphasized that blocking public roads, disrupting traffic, or causing inconvenience to citizens is not acceptable under any circumstances.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and strict legal action will be taken against all individuals found guilty during the inquiry.
