Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reduced the size of his official convoy days after urging people to limit fuel consumption and adopt austerity measures amid the West Asia crisis. Official sources said the downsizing was implemented during the prime minister’s recent visits to Gujarat and Assam, shortly after his address at a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad.

The reduction was carried out while maintaining mandatory security arrangements under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocol, sources added. Officials also said Modi had instructed authorities to include electric vehicles in his convoy wherever possible, without making any fresh purchases.

During his speech in Hyderabad on Sunday, the prime minister appealed for steps to conserve fuel and foreign exchange. He encouraged people to use metro rail services, carpool, increase the use of electric vehicles, shift parcel movement to railways, and work from home when possible. The appeal came amid rising concerns over the economic impact of tensions in West Asia on global energy supplies.
