Patiala, June 30

Hundreds of members of the Powercom Transco Outsource Workers Union Punjab staged a protest at Fountain Chowk in Patiala against the PSPCL management and the Punjab government, demanding action on their pending issues.

During the protest, workers burnt effigies of the Chief Minister and the Power Minister in protest. Union leaders said the demonstration was a symbolic protest and warned that a larger agitation would be launched if their demands were not addressed soon.

Union state president Harvinder Singh Faridkot and other leaders said the workers had started their first protest on 21 May 2026. They claimed that during a meeting held on 24 May 2026 with Power Minister Dhanpreet Singh Saund, PSPCL CMD and other senior officials, it was agreed that the data of all outsourced employees would be verified and a notification would be issued on 15 June 2026.

The union leaders further claimed that under the CHB policy, the process of merging employees into the department would be completed and offer letters would be issued. However, they alleged that, despite the deadline having passed, the PSPCL management did not take any concrete action, following which the union resumed its agitation on 16 June 2026.

They added that a nearly six-hour meeting held on 22 June 2026 with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, PSPCL CMD and senior officials ended without any concrete outcome. Another meeting held on 28 June 2026 at the DC Complex, Sri Amritsar Sahib, with the Finance Minister and PSPCL management also failed to reach an agreement on their demands.

The union said the conditions and proposals put forward by management were against employees’ interests and could not be accepted.

Harvinder Sharma, president of Powercom Transco Outsource Workers Union Punjab, said the workers had organised the protest to highlight their concerns and would plan a bigger movement if a solution was not found soon.
